The Trump administration is set to take the almost unprecedented action of stripping Harvey Milk’s name from a Navy ship, a defense official told CNN.

U.S. officials say Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to rename the USNS Harvey Milk in a highly rare move.

Milk, who served in the Navy during the Korean War, became one of the country’s first openly gay elected officials, winning a position on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977.
