Hanging out of the car with excitement, Marcelo Gomes da Silva couldn’t wait to return home to Milford on Thursday after spending six days in ICE custody. “The only thing I wanted to do when I got back here was hug my parents, my dad, yeah, my dad means the world to me,” said Marcelo Gomes da Silva.

Marcelo Gomes, the Milford, Massachusetts high school student currently detained by ICE, had an expired student visa, his attorney said.

The 18-year-old was taken into custody by ICE agents off campus Saturday, according to the superintendent's office. ICE has not released any information about the arrest. Gov. Maura Healey called for the student to be released.
