The Minneapolis DFL’s endorsement of state Sen. Omar Fateh for mayor — the first mayoral endorsement by the local party in 16 years — is teeing up a competitive race between Democrats’ moderate and progressive wings.

The campaign for Mayor Jacob Frey is challenging the Minneapolis DFL endorsement of his rival, Minnesota Sen. Omar Fateh.According to a news release from Frey's campaign, the challenge was filed with the Minnesota DFL on Monday.

The Minneapolis DFL held its convention on Saturday at Target Center, and Jacob Frey did not get the endorsement for mayor.
