Southeastern Kentucky communities are mourning the losses of loved ones who were killed as tornadoes and heavy storms rushed through the region May 16.

With 17 deaths and massive damage from weekend tornadoes, Laurel County Public Schools has officially ended the 2024-2025 school year as of May 16, district officials announced Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has confirmed the tornado that hit southern Kentucky, causing massive devastation reached EF-4 level strength.

In Louisville, storms are expected to arrive sometime between 5-8 p.m. Maps issued by NWS Louisville at 12:03 p.m. showed southwestern Kentucky, including Bowling Green, under a greater than 10% risk for tornadoes of at least EF-2 strength within 25 miles.

Officials in Laurel County have issued a nightly curfew for the City of London and other areas of Laurel County.
