The New York Yankees were unwilling to move on from top prospect Spencer Jones at the trade deadline. General manager Brian Cashman has an explanation.

Although he did not add a starting pitcher, Cashman added seven total players while addressing several areas of need for the Yankees, who enter Friday 3 1/2 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East.

In the hours leading up to MLB's annual trade deadline, the Yankees orchestrated a makeover of their struggling bullpen and added a speedy infield threat, capping off a swapping season that had already seen them find a new third baseman and fortify their bench. Bravo.
