Former national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced on Wednesday that the odds of his far-right Otzma Yehudit party rejoining Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition went up significantly in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s call to resettle the Palestinians of Gaza.

President Trump’s proposal to transfer millions of people out of Gaza was hailed by the Israeli right and condemned by Palestinians. Some experts say it may be a negotiating tactic.

Donald Trump’s call for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to be expelled from the enclave has been received rapturously by right-wing Israelis – and drawn support and interest from the left as well. On Tuesday, the US president said Palestinians had no alternative but to leave war-torn Gaza and go somewhere “good, fresh, beautiful”.
