Multiple people died when a small plane crashed in Southern California on May 22, striking more than a dozen homes and vehicles in a military housing neighborhood and prompting evacuations in the area,

A small plane crashed into a San Diego neighborhood, setting about 15 homes on fire as well as vehicles, and forcing evacuations along several blocks.

The plane crashed just before 4 a.m. local time into the U.S. military’s largest housing neighborhood, appearing to strike at least one home that had a charred and collapsed roof and smashing through half a dozen vehicles. About 10 homes suffered damage but no one inside the homes needed transport to the hospital, authorities said.
