BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore second baseman Jorge Mateo avoided a salary arbitration hearing when he agreed to a $3.55 million, one-year contract with the Orioles on Tuesday. Mateo's deal includes a $5.5 million team option for 2026. The option could increase by $500,000 based on plate appearances in 2025: $125,000 each for 460, 480, 500 and 520.
The Houston Astros are reportedly interested in signing Jorge Polanco to bolster the infield. If those negotiations fail, this infielder could be the target.
The Orioles announced that they have signed outfielder Dylan Carlson to a one-year deal. The ALIGND Sports Agency client will make $975K with a $25K bonus for getting to 200 plate appearances, per Jon Heyman of The New York Post. Infielder Jacob Amaya has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
