The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board published an op-ed Monday calling on Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to set aside his anti-vaccine activist positions in light of the nearly 50 measles cases that have been confirmed among mostly unvaccinated children in Texas.

Cases of this serious and highly contagious disease are rising in several states including Texas and Georgia just in the first two months of 2025.

The Texas Department of State Health Services on Tuesday gave more details about potential measles exposures in San Marcos and San Antonio, and added New Braunfels to the list of affected cities. It also said that the exposures in the three cities were by the same person.

Two Texas universities and their surrounding communities have issued warnings about potential exposure to measles after giving campus tours to at least one person who tested positive for the virus. Experts have been tracking the measles outbreak in Gaines County since late January.

Health authorities warned of further spread. Most U.S. measles cases this year involved people 19 and under and those without a confirmed vaccination.
