Toronto Crime Stoppers and the Toronto Police Service have launched a new campaign dedicated to fighting against organized retail theft, which has surged to a multi-billion-dollar crisis nationwide, police say.
Toronto police are searching for a 29-year-old man — a husband and a father — who has been missing since he left his east end home more than a week ago.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and Police Chief Myron Demkiw will provide an update on 911 and emergency services response times on Tuesday. Chow and Demkiw will speak at 8:30 a.m. alongside Chair of the Toronto Police Service Board, Shelley Carroll.
Toronto Police Service received 39 reports of a stolen vehicle between Feb. 27 to March 5, including 10 in the district of Old Toronto. In total 367 auto thefts have been reported in the City of Toronto since Jan. 1 — down 80.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
