Calera tornado which covered portions of Chilton and Shelby counties was determined to be an EF1 storm with winds of 90 m.p.h. There were no fatalities or injuries in the storm.

A man was killed in Talladega County. Several areas in central Alabama, including Calera, Gordo, Maplesville, Pletcher and Sipsey, reported damage during Saturday’s tornado outbreak.

Stiegel’s mobile home on 13th Street took one of the hardest hits in what was possibly an EF-1 tornado with estimated winds of 90 mph in Shelby County’s Calera area.

There are at least 19 tornado memorials in Alabama, more than triple the number erected before the April 27, 2011, outbreak. They honor the more than 680 people killed since 1950.

Another EF2 touched ground in Tallapoosa County, reaching wind peaks of 120 mph. Two EF1 tornadoes spawned in Shelby, one in Calera and another in Montevallo, and both produced winds reaching 90 mph.
