Former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr testified on his own behalf in his murder trial Friday. He is accused of killing 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya. Day six of the trial is Monday.

Defense attorneys say the former Grand Rapids police officer was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot Patrick Lyoya in 2022.

Jurors have begun deliberating over whether former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr was justified when he shot and killed Patrick Lyoya, a 26-year-old Congolese immigrant, in April 2022.
