Casey Bloys reacts to HBO's Emmy nominations haul and gives updates on the future of "The Pitt," "The White Lotus" and "The Last of Us"

HBO just broke its own Emmy record with 142 nominations, outpacing Netflix and dominating awards season. Here’s what made it happen.

HBO and its streaming service HBO Max smashed past Netflix to once again lead the number of Emmy nominations, thanks to hauls from shows including The Penguin, The White Lotus and The Last of Us. The Warner Bros.

The all-time Emmy record haul remains the 160 nominations hoovered up by Netflix, also in 2020. This year, Netflix commanded 120, ranking second among platforms and up from last year's 107 noms. Limited series "The Penguin" punched above its weight with 24 nominations.

Patrick Schwarzenegger wasn’t too happy about his Emmy snub. According to gossip columnist Rob Shuter, the White Lotus star was “absolutely heartbroken” after he didn’t receive an Emmy nomination for his work in the HBO drama.

Speaking with TheWrap about the whopping 142 Emmy nominations HBO and HBO Max received across 20 original programs this year, Bloys took a moment to look ahead at its upcoming slate, which includes a new superhero series, the drama Lanterns.

Fueled by a strong slate of contenders that includes The White Lotus (24 nominations), The Penguin (24 nominations), The Last of Us (17 nominations), Hacks (15 nominations), and The Pitt (13 nominations), HBO Max earned a record 142 Emmy nominations across 20 titles — a massive jump from last year's total of just 91.
