F OXBOROUGH — It was a hot day at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday as the New England Patriots took the field for the second straight padded practice. The competition is certainly ramping up, but it was the defense that came out on top during the sixth training camp session.

On Tuesday, the Patriots offense felt that firsthand at the beginning of Day 6 of training camp. During the team’s 7-on-7 period, Drake Maye finished 3-of-8. That included a rough second period, during which the quarterback was 0-for-4 near the end zone. When 11-on-11 drills began, the results were similar for Maye’s unit.

Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez limped off the practice field Monday after he suffered an apparent leg injury in the team's first padded-practice of training camp. The severity of his injury has yet to be determined.
