Authorities confirmed a 58-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman, believed to be mother and daughter, were killed. An infant with its mother when she was struck by the train was rescued from the Sandusky River. The infant is believed to be 14 months old.

A Sandusky County Sheriff’s boat is back in the Sandusky River Monday, searching for a missing five-year-old girl who went into the water Sunday evening.Fremont Fire Chief Paul Halbeisen said they are using the latest technology in their recovery effort.

“I saw a little purple jacket and thought, that’s a baby. And that just shook me, and I went and got the baby. You could see her go under and go back up. And when I got to her, she was leaning back and that scared me. I got her up, and I could tell she was breathing,” said Kieffer. The one-year-old girl was the only survivor.
