The Trump administration is expanding its immigration detention capacity, reopening a 1,000-bed detention center in New Jersey and adding beds at other privately owned facilities around the country.

ICE says it’s opening its first new detention facility under the Trump Administration, expanding its capacity to house detainees and easily deport them through a deal with a privately owned jailhouse in Newark.

27-year-old Roble Ahmed Salad is one of about a half dozen people Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have detained in Alaska so far this year, according to reporting by the Anchorage Daily News. Daily News reporter Michelle Theriault Boots says Salad's journey to Alaska began in 2022 when he crossed the U.S. border with Mexico.
