Yu Zidi, a 12-year-old Chinese athlete, has become the youngest swimmer in history to win a medal at the World Aquatics Championships. China won bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the Championships in Singapore, and while Yu did not swim in Thursday’s final, she qualified for a medal after swimming a leg in the heats earlier in the day.

Canadian phenom Summer McIntosh was unable to beat American star Katie Ledecky in the women's 800-metre freestyle at the swimming world championships on Saturday, ending her quest to win five individual gold medals in Singapore.

Katie Ledecky once again dominated the 800-meter freestyle event. The American swimmer clinched her seventh consecutive world title on Saturday in Singapore, holding off a strong charge from 17-year-old Canadian standout Summer McIntosh.
