A political standoff has delayed a House vote on cryptocurrency legislation as Republicans struggle with timing constraints and internal disagreements over the GENIUS and Clarity acts.

Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene invoked the Bible on Wednesday to declare her opposition to a landmark cryptocurrency bill, equating the legislation’s potential impact to the Biblical end of times.

The Senate voted 68-30 late Tuesday to pass the GENIUS Act, a bill that aims to regulate some cryptocurrencies. The bill faced some Democratic opposition over President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency ventures, but it ultimately garnered support from 18 Democrats, including Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

The GENIUS Act seeks to regulate stablecoin but will do nothing to curb energy-intensive cryptocurrency mining. Another option for minting crypto coins uses far less energy.
