The National Transportation Safety Board has released their preliminary report into the deadly midair collision between an American Airlines flight and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over Washington,

The National Safety Transportation Board has found that helicopter traffic out of Ronald Reagan International Airport posed an “intolerable risk to aviation safety by increasing the chances of a mid-air collision” ahead of a crash last month that resulted in the deaths of 67 people.

The National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday released two reports — one on preliminary findings and another on safety recommendations — related to the deadly collision of an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet in January.

The NTSB says the current helicopter routes around the busy airport "pose an intolerable risk to aviation safety" in the wake of January's collision that killed 67 people.
