Protests over President Trump's immigration enforcement raids and his mobilization of the Marines and National Guard in Los Angeles have spread to other major U.S. cities.

A federal judge’s National Guard order, backlash to roughing up Padilla, and growing protests show the administration may have overplayed its hand.

Some vehicles thought be those of agents were spray-painted with expletives, as were some exterior walls of the Whittier hotel.

Trump deployed 4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to LA against the wishes of Newsom and Bass. Newsom sued the Trump administration, saying they unlawfully "trampled over" California’s sovereignty when they federalized the California National Guard.

"If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains because we will kill you," Sheriff Ivey said. Ivey said that those consequences can be avoided if the law is obeyed.

Protests that started Thursday in Southern California amid reports of ICE immigration sweeps endured through the weekend. Some were peaceful and focused. Others erupted into clashes with law
