Swaths of heavy rainfall are expected with the next round of storms in the Kansas City area. There might be pockets of more than 6 inches. A tornado is also possible.

We are tracking a set up for flash flooding today through Friday across eastern Kansas and Missouri. Some locations could see 5"-10" of rain.

The storms are on their way out, but dangerously hot temperatures are moving back in. Several heat advisories are in place across the metro Sunday through Tuesday.

According to an announcement from the team, Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph is closed to the public due to inclement weather. St. Joseph has been under similar conditions to the Kansas City area with heavy rain and flooding. More storms are expected throughout the day.

Additional rain and thunderstorms will move in Friday evening, potentially leading to more flooding and severe weather.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Hours of overnight rain caused concern early Friday morning for drivers. The Missouri Department of Transportation reported water standing in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the Benton Curve heading into downtown. Water is also standing on I-70 near Noland Road in Independence as of 4 a.m.

A flood watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning for the Kansas City area, including Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, as well as Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Ray counties in Missouri.
