Armed clashes erupted on Monday evening and gunfire has echoed in the city center and other parts of the Libyan capital Tripoli following reports that an armed group leader was killed, three residents told Reuters by phone.

The Trump administration is moving forward with plans to transport a group of undocumented immigrants to Libya on a US military plane, an administration official told CNN.

The immigrants were woken up at 2:30 a.m. and boarded on a bus to wait for hours outside a military plane in Texas. They were then sent back to solitary confinement.

A judge has ruled that deporting noncitizens to Libya without due process would violate his court order, after sources said the White House has discussed such plans.
