Sony CFO Lin Tao has revealed they will completely absorb Bungie into PlayStation, ending the original independent terms of their contract.
Bungie will be absorbed into PlayStation Studios as Destiny 2 player numbers fall and Marathon faces mixed reception.
Sony CFO Lin Tao said the company needs 100 billion Yen (approx. $512M) to offset new U.S. tariffs and may raise PlayStation 5 prices.
After being previously acquired back by Sony in 2022, Bungie is now set to lose independent freedom it had enjoyed with the company.
Sony CFO Lin Tao has copped to the fact that their PlayStation live-service plans, from 'Spider-Man' to 'Marathon', have been a bust.
Sony has admitted that its current live-service strategy "is not entirely going smoothly" following the disastrous launch of Concord, but says it will continue with its plan and learn from its mistakes.
Beyond Marathon, Sony also has the live-service game Fairgame$ coming up, but its studio head recently left and the game was reportedly delayed due to poor feedback to a recent test.
