ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland lost its triple-A bond rating from Moody’s on Wednesday, a rating the state has cited for more than 50 years as a sign of strong fiscal stewardship.

Maryland has received an AAA rating every year since 1973, according to Moody's. A year ago, the state maintained its top credit rating from Moody's.

Maryland had its credit rating downgraded one level to Aa1 from Aaa by Moody’s Ratings because of its exposure to shifting federal policies, according to a Wednesday report.
