OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pilot was rescued Saturday after making an emergency landing in the ocean near Oak Island Pier.

Originally built in 1955, Oak Island Pier still stands at 705 Ocean Drive, and has long been a beloved Oak Island marker. At 27 feet, the pier is the longest in North Carolina, and is 880 feet long.
