There very well could be one more — golf's oldest trophy on McIlroy's home soil. The 153rd edition of the British Open returns to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland on July 17-20. There might not be a better way for McIlroy to conclude a most unforgettable season.

Rory McIlroy is back in Northern Ireland to take part in the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, but the world no.2 and his family are set for an extended stay in the UK. McIlroy, his wife Erica Stoll and daughter Poppy will swap their mansion in Florida for a newly constructed abode in Surrey, conveniently situated near London.

Royal Portrush will host the 153rd Open Championship for only the third time in its history. Six years ago Irishman Shane Lowry made his major breakthrough, a popular winner once home favourite Rory McIlroy missed the cut. Here the PA news agency looks at this year’s event in Northern Ireland.
