The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said waves of 1 to 3 meters (yards) above tide level were possible along some coastal areas of Hawaii, Chile, Japan and the Solomon Islands. Waves of more than 3 meters (yards) were possible along some coastal areas of Russia and Ecuador.

The National Weather Service issued a tsunami watch for the West Coast after an earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka region on July 29.

Authorities said tsunami waves would reach Oregon and warned coastal residents to avoid shorelines but said it was "not a major tsunami."
