ICE says it’s opening its first new immigration detention facility under the Trump Administration, expanding its capacity to house detainees and easily deport them through a deal involving a privately owned jailhouse in Newark.

The Trump administration is expanding its immigration detention capacity, reopening a 1,000-bed detention center in New Jersey and adding beds at other privately owned facilities around the country.

The leadership change comes as the president aims to make good on a promise of mass deportations and arrests of undocumented immigrants across the United States.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the imminent reopening of the Delaney Hall after reaching an agreement with the facility’s owner.

Delaney Hall, which previously housed immigrants from 2011 and 2017, will be the first facility to open under President Donald Trump's administration.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is set to reopen an immigration detention facility in Newark, nearly doubling the agency’s capacity to detain people from the New York city region, the agency announced in a press release late Wednesday evening.
