Pasty butt can be fatal if not dealt with quickly. Pasty butt is when the chick’s poop gets stuck and covers their vent. The vent is the only way for poop to leave their body, so if it gets blocked, the chick can get sick and die within hours. We check our chicks multiple times a day the first few days (enlist your little ones to help you spot it). If I notice any poop starting to build up, I gently remove it with warm water and a qtip. A twisting motion works well. You have to be super careful
